Overview of South Africa Hunting Safari - South Central

When choosing a South Africa hunting safari, the hunting is important—but the people are what make you want to come back year after year.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by your South Africa hunting safari team that makes you feel like part of the family. The professional hunters are experienced.  They are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.  All the while the lodge hosts create an atmosphere that is relaxed, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming. It’s the kind of place where lasting friendships are formed and where returning feels less like booking another trip and more like coming home.

The hunting itself is equally impressive. With access to four diverse properties totaling more than 200,000+ acres, you’ll enjoy a variety of terrain and species.

Each of the luxury lodges are available exclusively for your group, providing privacy and personalized service throughout your stay.

Bush properties:  Two bush camps in two different areas with varied topography.  Both are unique and amazing.   One is free range and the other is 150,000 acres with a river running through it.  Both have luxury lodges.  One is more contemporary and the other has an Italian Villa feel.  Because of their commitment to conservation, both enjoy exceptional hunting opportunities.

The Mountain Property: Finally, the 70,000-acre property offers the largest man-made lake in South Africa and gorgeous plateaus. The family who owns and operates the safari company uses this property as their home.

The Coastal Property: The 10,000-acre coastal property is filled with beach vegetation and vistas for a fantastic South Africa hunting experience. Magnificent ocean views are one of the most noteworthy features of this stunning ranch, located near Port Alfred.  One moment you will be stalking a trophy-sized animal and the next you will be overlooking the ocean. The five-star lodge also has glorious beachfront views.

You can also visit the local school which this safari family started decades ago.

Fishing

The mountain property boasts the largest man made lake in South Africa. They have caught fish as large as 13 pounds in this lake! Fly and spin fishing are available from the bank. Amazing Rainbow trout fishing available.

Deep sea fishing can also be arranged from the beach property.

Hunting

Your tailor-made South Africa luxury hunting safari is built to cater to your hunting desires and needs. All hunting is spot and stalk in an ethical, traditional African hunting style.

You will enjoy hunting on amazing large properties ranging in size from 10,000 acres up to 15o,000 acres!  This lodge privately owns 95,000 acres.

What does “spot and stalk” mean? When the trophy you wish to hunt is spotted from a mountainside, vehicle, or on a hike, a plan is made between you and your PH (Professional Hunter) and to stalk the trophy. Wind direction is always important!  The goal is to be within 150-200 yds of the animal but sometimes a 300 yard shot is possible.

Should you have any disabilities that need to be catered to, it is absolutely a priority, and plans will be made. This outfitter is dedicated to ethical hunting and catering to the specific needs and desires of every client. No two safaris are just alike!

As you noticed in the introduction, they offer several unique lodges on several different properties. Each is exclusive to the group in camp. The properties are large and do not have interior fences. The game range freely on each property.

Safaris of 7 nights typically enjoy hunting two areas and over 8 nights may enjoy hunting three areas.

Excellent trophy animals are on each property. 40+ indigenous trophy species plus cape buffalo.

The Winterberg mountain range along the Swartkei river ranges from 4000 to 6000 feet, the terrain varies from rugged deep gorges and cliffs to flat open plains offering breathtaking sunsets and sunrises. During winter, cold conditions can be expected with snow on the high mountains.

One of the owners has his private family residence on this property.  Your meals will be in the owners’ home family style with a roaring fire and plenty of friendly Jack Russell Terriers to greet you each day.  A lovely chalet with two private suites for guests is only steps away from the family home for guests.  Also, you will find two private en-suite rooms behind the main house for overflow guests and pilots.  The family is warm and welcoming, you will feel as if you have known them all your life!

Also on this mountainous property, you will find the largest man-made lake in South Africa!  Take a morning or afternoon or middle of the day and spin or fly fish from the bank for rainbow trout.  Some as large a 13 pounds have been caught in this lake.

Thirty minutes from this property is where you can visit the school that the family started some years ago for underprivileged children in the area along with privileged children.  It is a Christian based school with an amazing story sure to change your life even on a short visit.

Superior hospitality and superlative cuisine are the hallmarks of this luxury ranch-style lodge, with sumptuous accommodation including en-suite bathrooms and fireplaces for chilly winter evenings and under- floor heating. The surrounds are similarly spectacular: the foothills of the Winterberg Mountains and the Swartkei River create a dramatic backdrop to the lodge.
