Overview of Argentina Red Stag Hunt - Santa Rosa

This is an Argentina Red Stag hunt that will put your hunting skills to the test! The diverse terrain of lush fields, rocky sierras, hills, and brush-filled creek beds does not provide cover for the hunter or the animals. This creates a hunt that will challenge your stalking and shooting skills. While red stag is the primary trophy here mouflon, blackbuck, wild boar, duck, and Himalayan Thar are on this 18,000-acre property as well. The stringent management set in place by the owners has created herds of top-notch red stag. There are plenty of free-range stag on this property ranging from 240-340 gross SCI and 350-450 gross SCI in the 2,000 acre high-fence.

The lodge sits in the midst of 180 manicured acres and was built 50+ years ago by the owner’s grandfather. It is filled with rich wood, comfortable furniture, and family memories. You will feel right at home by the large fireplace as you enjoy appetizers and drinks after your day of hunting. Depending on the weather, take a dip in the pool. The food here is good old-fashion family cooking. The meals often contain angus beef, game, lamb, potatoes, and excellent desserts.

The property is set on the northern slopes of the Pillahuinco Sierras which are part of the Sierra de la Ventana range. Depending on the weather, you will have distant but great views of the mountain range. Your hosts have a great sense of humor, speak good English, and are innately familiar with their family land. They will be with you during your entire stay. This hunt is an excellent way to experience authentic La Pampa culture, landscape, and hunting.

Our Experience at This Lodge

When Santiago picked us up from the airport we started laughing, and we didn’t stop the rest of trip! This was a lighthearted, camaraderie building experience that included big animals, horseback riding, excellent food, and great entertainment from our host.

Staying in this lodge made us feel right at home, probably because it is a family home! Santiago’s family has shared this home for generations as their holiday getaway. Since this was such a great experience for our family, we know it will be for yours!

Hunting

Big Game Hunting:

The adventure unravels in a setting of hills, ravines, rocky sierras, deep valleys and crystal water creeks, 2300 ft. above sea level, in the heart of the humid Pampa region. This lodge’s peculiar geography demands the use of effective ambushing techniques. The landscape offers no shelter for the game and the hunter has nowhere to hide, resulting in long silent stalking as well as long distance shooting. 70% of the land is in agricultural crops and grass while 30% is thicker cover along the 2 creeks providing safe travel corridors.

The free range hunting experience here is superb due to the stringent management the owners have put into practice for years. They have an abundance of high-scoring free range red stag trophies that can range from 240-340 SCI points and high fence red stags ranging from 350-450+. You will enjoy a challenging hunt as the terrain does not provide coverage for the hunter or the animals. This means you will experience stealthy stalks and long-distance shooting as you trek over the hills, ravines, rocky sierras, valleys, and creeks. Depending on the hunt and your preference, you may even take the horses for a turn and spend your day hunting on horseback.

In the heart of the winter, it is cold and with an average amount of snowfall. Nevertheless, the reward for enduring such harsh terrain and adverse weather conditions is majestic: red stags of the highest scores, exceptional Fallow and Axis deer, Blackbuck, Himalayan Tahrs (non-importable to the USA), Wild boars, Mouflon sheep, four horned sheep, wild goats and rams.

The Wingshooting:

Duck hunting over decoys both morning and afternoons. Morning hunts depart the lodge in the dark but after a hearty breakfast. Duck season is May-August.

Drives vary depending on water conditions but range from 20-90 minutes depending on current water conditions.

Hunters are placed in dry blinds, or large dry, sunken “buckets” of the style of an individual pit blind, or on platform-pallet blinds.

Shooting over decoys starts at first light and continues until 10 am or after. Most days, duck hunters return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta before afternoon departures at about 3 pm for evening duck hunts. Evening hunts last until dark.

Dove hunting is good here from September thru January where hunters can expect to shoot 400-500 shells per half day hunt.

  • 2-twins bedroom with the bathroom across the hall

3 Upstairs:
