Scouting Report: An Oklahoma Elk & Red Stag Experience Worth Coming Back To

We rolled into camp for a three-day elk hunt and a full “check out” of a new Oklahoma lodge we’ve had on our radar. The goal was simple: stress-test the program to experience everything our Antlers & Anglers clients would—range time, time in the field, time at the lodge—and see if it delivers the kind of results and hospitality we expect.

Day 1 — Range Time & First Look

Bags down, rifles out. Upon arrival we were pleased with the lodge: comfortable, relaxed atmosphere with top-tier staff. After unpacking and grabbing lunch it was time to hit the field.

The property keeps a well-set 100–1,200-yard range, so we went straight to work. Both Josie and Kevin stacked rounds into the same hole at 400 yards during a one-shot competition—like father, like daughter. Confidence and excitement were high.

That afternoon we rode the property with our guide explaining the layout along the way to help us with our understanding of the property—how the wind moves through the draws, where the meadows open, the travel corridors bulls favor, and how we’d approach each zone. The team felt organized and intentional from the jump.

Day 2 — Dawn Patrol, Lodge Relaxation & Sunset Scouting

We kicked off before first light with hot breakfast burritos and coffee, then rolled out on the ATV to read the morning. After a quick pulse check, we moved on foot—easing along meadow edges, cresting low, rolling hills, and slipping into timber as the sun came up.

As we walked we check out their state-of-the-art, all-glass, one-way blinds offering a 360° view; the animals can’t see in, but you can see everything. They’re perfect for bow or rifle when you want to let an area settle or you just need physical assistance in order to take advantage of a dream hunt.

By 10 a.m. the September heat turned up for us and the elk, so we headed in for brunch and downtime. On the way, we swung by the skinning shed to celebrate a fantastic bull another hunter had just taken—handshakes, photos, and a quick look at how the team handles field care (efficient, clean, professional).

The afternoon was what good time at the lodge is made of: football on the couch, swapping stories, and resetting. By 5 p.m. the temps eased, and we were back at it—same plan: cover country, glass meadows, check bedding fringes. We turned up several elk we liked. With another full day to hunt, we chose to pattern them rather than push. The evening ended in a blaze-orange Oklahoma sunset, a last pass by the skinning shed (two more bulls down for fellow hunters), and a quick strategy session over dinner.

Day 3 — The Bull

Same early start: coffee, burritos, and a quiet ride out. We pointed our boots toward a popular bedding area we hadn’t scouted yet and cut through the timber. As we snuck our way in, we froze as we found ourselves making eye contact with the bull Josie decided she wanted. The shadows held over him when we saw him—a heavy, character-laden bull standing in the cover, watching. Josie dropped to a knee behind shooting sticks. BOOM. A perfect shot followed up in seconds by another one. He was down.

There were tears of happiness, high-fives all around, and a round of photos that’ll live on the wall for a long time. Back at the skinning shed, hunters who’d already tagged out came by to celebrate. Josie jumped right into the skinning, and the guides closed ranks like a pit crew—clean, quick, dialed. It’s the kind of energy that keeps everyone around to tell the story twice.

What Stood Out

  • Staff: Professional, friendly, and always two steps ahead. The kind of people you actually want to spend time with between hunts.

  • Guides: True field-craft. They read wind, pockets, travel corridors, and timing, then translate that into decisive moves and steady opportunities.

  • Food: Chef-driven and hearty—meals you earn in the field and look forward to upon arrival back at the lodge.

  • Lodge: Built for camaraderie. Game on the TV, stories at the dining table, and a fire to close the night. Comfortable rooms, easy gathering spaces, and a layout that keeps the crew together.

  • Property: The property has been well-maintained to create optimal elk and red stag habitat. Between the forested draws, rolling meadows, and ponds the hunt is exciting and a great representation of Oklahoma’s best landscapes.

Each day felt purpose-built to maximize chances of success—disciplined plans, efficient moves, and high-percentage shot opportunities that instill confidence for a first-timer and deliver the right challenge for a veteran.

Our Take

Top to bottom, this place checks the Antlers & Anglers boxes: impressive animals, thoughtful planning, guides with efficiency and patience, and a lodge environment that turns a hunt into a shared experience. You earn your meals, you earn your moments, and you go to bed already planning the next day’s push.

If you’re looking for a passport-free red stag hunt with the polish to host a client and the camaraderie to enhance a father-daughter or buddies’ trip or a dream elk hunt but you don’t have the time to climb mountains in outback areas, put this Oklahoma operation on your shortlist. We did the homework; the results speak for themselves.
